Doomed relationship

This is anecdotal. This seems like a life story. But somebody is no
longer in my life anymore.
I think that my relationship with Ycnan is over:

1. I seriously think that I need her more than she needs me.
2. I think that she believes that I took her space without any consideration.
3. She believes that the phone call that I made during dinner time was
inconsiderate. She also believes that I went on talking as if she has
no other thing to do except to talk with me.
4. She is probably feeling better after we have stopped talking.
5. People will suck up to her on the account of her being white and
having money.
6. She gets to know more people at her school and her work. I think
that both are favorable for her to create new friends. She does not
need me and I refuse to pander. I refuse to sink low just to please
her.
7. After her friend comes to Nepal, she has somebody else that she can be with.
8. She believes that I will not have any positive impact in her life.
9. Mos and Mayhs will find something bad about me and she will come
abroad their team. That will remove any guilty feeling that she might
have about me.
10.I don't need her as much I used to.
11. I think that my life would be a lot better if she is not in my
life. That said , having her would still help.
12. She will get involved in Okinra and other projects and she will
have no time in her mind for me.
13. I expect an email about the battery after her friend comes. But
till then, I think that there is zero chance that we are going to
talk. Maybe it is good to me too.
14. It is one of the lessons of life.

Faith:Continued:Another View :This view is more interesting though

And faith also keeps you going when you rationally should give up
hope, or when your rationality is overcome or undercut by powerful
emotions. You have faith in rationality. Faith is more akin to an
emotion, and rationality to a method of interpreting information. They
are not really opposites, any more than rage is the opposite of a
trial by jury. We associate them with opposite scenarios, but they are
not strict antonyms.

But faith obviously must have survival value, otherwise it would have
been weeded out by evolution quite some time ago. Perhaps when the
world was a much more risky, unknown, isolated place, having faith
allowed our progenitors to survive and succeed when the best, rational
course of action in the face of the unknown was to call it a life and
expire. Like many of the emotions we have, they were shaped in a very
different environment than the typical human finds themselves in
today. My personal suspicion is that faith is a highly useful, good
thing to have, INDIVIDUALLY. It gives us the courage to try new things
that we don't know that we can do, to face disease, death,
selfishness, and all the evil in life and try to make the world a
better place despite that. OTOH, when it starts becoming a group
ritual, it seems to take on many of those negative aspects you
mentioned; it tends to enforce existing power structures, allow one to
suffer through circumstances rather than change them - to make it
acceptable to be a victim, if I may sum up some of what you said.

Faith isn't going anywhere, any more than greed, lust, love, or
curiosity are leaving the human condition. Figuring out how to
accommodate it in society without it becoming a cancer like the
American-style religious right is the challenge.

Faith:What is its use

Hi,
Back after a zillion years. This I got somewhere from Slashdot. Loved it.

I argue the opposite. Faith is a weakness. Faith leads people to
accept their conditions and pray that it will get better rather than
act. Faith leads people to accept conditions that are unacceptable.

Faith keeps women from leaving abusive husbands because the hope
they'll see the light. Faith keeps people from speaking out against
the government because they hope their God will intervene. Faith keeps
people from enjoying the only life they know they have because they
hope that the words in a particular book are true.

Our best quality isn't our ability to blindly accept conditions as
they are because they might change, but to recognize the flaws in our
condition right now through research and figure out a way to change
the stuff we can. In fact, the ability to drastically modify our
environment is what makes us a technological species.

Perhaps you're using a different definition of "faith" than I am.

Another interesting decision to make

A very good paying job or a full scholarship to study in one of the
top colleges in far away Sweden.Decision time!. As they said -life is
full of choices- it turns out the way you choose it to.
I hope that I don't make a bad decision now.

Happiness

When people are pretty down, as I am most of the times(and even now) I
listen to music. Music is the greatest thing that keeps my spirit
alive. I wonder what else could I do.
There was a question in The Guardian,London about depression(in the
magazine section, yesterday's Issue) and I found it exhilarating.

HP Pavilion 7850 Problem

I have found a odd problem with an old HP Pavilion 7850.
After pressing F1 for entry into BIOS, the computer doe-
s not do so, but it stalls and stalls with the black screen
on, but as soon as the bios setup option is not used ,the
computer boots into Windows Xp.
Some problem that.

Basic Principles of Life(Continued)

Relationship is a strong word.It may mean a million thing to million
different people. And I know that most relationships start randomly, as
almost God(if there is one) provided the thrust. I believe that asking
for a date from an unknown person, if you think that person is
somewhat interesting is all right. But pursuing a relationship which
is leading nowhere is inane and foolish. The most important thing that
I have learned from my quarter century of relationships is that you
should care about only those who care about you. Running after ( or
trying to maintain) a person of interest is ridiculous.
Thus
CARE ABOUT THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT YOU
and
YOU CAN'T CHANGE OTHERS
That means
CARE ABOUT THOSE WHO CARE ABOUT YOU BUT IF YOU WANT TO MAINTAIN THAT
RELATIONSHIP DON'T EVER TRY TO CHANGE THAT PERSON ,IT SIMPLY WON'T
WORK.

That you know is life.

My basic principles of life

Sarah used to tell me that life is an university, learn from it. In
this quarter century of my life I have learnt some things -which I
have made the basic principles of my life- the way I judge people and
the way I think that the world should be run. They are
1)The root cause of unhappiness is expectation. As long as I am
expecting something from somebody I will always be in the pangs of
unhappiness. However much I love the guy/gal in question ,I would try
never to expect anything from anybody. As they say nothing comes free
in life.
2)You can't change others. You can only try to influence others. The
rest is upto them. But even then you can't change the basic inherent
characteristics of people ,no matter what.A troglodyte is always a
troglodyte, a procrastinator is always a procastinator, a mendacious
guy will always be mendacious, and a totally selfish one will remain
the same throughout his/her life.An iota of change does not mean that
the person has changed .If fact it will never happen.
3)I am alone and will always be. That is because of the fact that
everybody is inherently different.Nobody actually lasts as a friend.
4)I am what I am. The reebok's ad has a message.Whoever says that
he/she couldn't do anything because of something is giving an excuse.
I am what I am , and will always be so.
As in the theme song of One tree hill, I don't wanna be anything
except what I am.
Robin

Back to square one

I am writing after a long time.In this time I have already started my
graduate course in a so called "prestigious" college. Since the course
that I am doing is directly relevant to the current technologies,I am
pretty sure that if I could successfully complete this course,I will
at least be materialistically successful in the standview of the
world. In the meantime I have lost the one girl that I care about and
that would make my world little more interesting.

Crossroads of life

I have come to this crossroads of life, the direction forward I know
is dependent upon me.I think of life retrospectively and I think of
myself as an iota of hope. I lived my life on hope, but never had hope
dictated my life. Now I know that I am in love with somebody ,though
she deserves somebody a million times better than me.Whatever I have
done or not done has come back to hunt me, remind me of the fatality
of life.Decisions ,decisions : which decide what I do or not.Every
decision ,every lie, everything that I have done has come back
sometimes to hunt me, sometimes to deride me, sometimes to make fun of
me, sometimes to just give an iota of hope .And that iota of hope is
what that keeps me alive.I almost had given up completely.I was
thinking of suicide, then thinking about the amazing achievements I
had gained without any support from anybody in life. I may not be
exceptional but I am certainly above average in certain stuffs. And I
may not be the worst ,but I am certainly well below average in things
like communications and socialization.I always claimed that I could do
it alone, I don't need friends ,I don't need anybody to support me
,but I came to know that the recluse is speaking, I need attention.I
don't want to be a cynosure, but I do need friends with whom I can
talk,I need people to listen in.And I don't have that,probably I can
never have that.
I don't know, maybe because I am black or maybe because I am a geek in
a true sense of word, I intent to live that way. I am completely
progressive and my political feelings sometimes paint
the horizon sometimes encompassing all possible scenario of mutuality
with somebody I would probably want to talk to.
Sarah is different,but I can't say anything.As I said she deserves better.

Sweden Got a Pro-piracy party

From a news item in slashdot ,
"Tired of being called criminals, a group of Swedish filesharers have
started a new political party, The Piracy Party (Piratpartiet in
Swedish). The party wants to abolish all intellectual property laws,
reverse the data retention directive passed by the EU last month, and
protect privacy with new laws. The party expresses no opinion on other
subjects. The Piracy Party's webpage is so far only available in
Swedish, at piratpartiet.se The party's goal is to get into to the
parliament, which requires 4% of the votes, or roughly 225000 votes.
Elections are held in September"
Well for me I am not pro-piracy, I believe in intellectual property
rights, but believe in concepts of free speech and freedom to live and
behave as one desires. That means I don't support government
interference, and somebody telling me how I should I live or not live
my life.
It must also be kept in mind that piracy is the only way through many
in the third world can afford expensive softwares and books. You can
download softwares and even necessary books from IRC or some P2P
network more easily than you can even get them legally. Most books are
not even available in libraries of third world nations.
So the $100 dollar laptop (developed by MIT scientists) could not only
lessen the digital divide ,it may also give an opportunity to people
from third world nations to actually read good books.
I believe that the copyright laws are stringent and patents
/copyrights should expire in say 10 years so everyone could share the
amazing stuffs that gets into a developed country's market every year.
So this might be the right move towards this direction.

Loneliness and God

When people are desperate , they do desperate things. It is assumed by
many that the poor are so because they are lazy.Indolence means
poverty in the common speak. Some things like people dying in the
streets are simply ignored, and this year has shown that visual
effects rather than necessity turns people towards charity. Much more
were given after dramatic pictures from Katrina victims and Tsunami
Effects were shown in TV that people usually do.
People are mostly good ,which I agree. But the stereotype that poor
are lazy is plainly wrong. It was also stated during some major
research into poverty that many poor actually work ,but only that they
don't earn enough. Maybe in the day of nanotechnology ,in which money
will play no role as it would be easier to make paper money, we will
see what the divide between the rich or poor being gapped will
portend. But it has been argued by economist that the present money
based economy is the best, because it simply awards hard work. Most
people who are successful are able to sell themselves to the economy
thereby garnering money from the various components of economics. But
those who are poor are simply not working hard enough .The argument
falls when you consider peerage and status. For a good economy from a
philosophical view of point ,people should get what they deserve .That
means if you work really hard and are willing to go the extra mile you
should be successful. But unfortunately a factor called luck has been
left out. Nobody in this world is born equal. What you are ,what
education you get, and what chances you may receive depends largely
upon where you are born, who are your parents, how good looking are
you, how rich and influencial your parents are and other factors like
this which doesnot make everybody equal. George W.Bush got into Yale
and Harvard not because he of merit(he was a C student) but because of
the fact that his parents were influential and rich.
It is not expected that a child born in Sudan will fare any better or
equal to any child born in
US(except if the child is born to a very rich family in Sudan). Good
looks is also a big factor. You hardly see a ugly looking guy being
successful. Yes if you are lacking some stuffs you have to go the
extra mile. Marlyn Monroe changed her haircolor worked day in and out,
did some provocative shoots for her day , made aquaintances with the
top producers and even though she came from a failed family and
turbulent childhood she became famous. Though it has been argued that
she is not "better" looking than many of her counterparts. But it must
be said that she is not what you call ugly.
This much for now.

ViewSonic E40 goes blank ,but when tilted or whacked comes back up

My monitor ViewSonic E40 went blank but the LED was still blinking ,so
I did some search looked up some schematics and came up with the
conclusion that a device called NE555 timer or MOSFET is not
functioning properly. The strange thing about the monitor is that when
tilted a bit or when whacked ,the picture comes back.I used to whack a
bit ,to bring up the computer when one day it simply stopped working
.So however hard I whacked there was no picture. Then I tilted the
computer at various angles and learnt that that is another solution to
no picture problem.Let me see if I can get hand on the timer now.

Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire:The Worst Movie of all time

I can understand why very poor quality movies like Gigli or Catwomen
are made. They had a idea , some sort of a plot but very poor
implementation and acting.Nothing in those movies seems to work
out.But given good actors ,good directors and good handling of plot
,even those movies could become watchable.
I went to watch the new Harry Potter movie today and it was the worst
of the worst. It was the biggest waste of time and money over a movie I
had had this year.Or maybe my life. I had read the book and I do
think JK Rowling had produced a good book .The quality of her work (as
the Harry Potter phenomenon catched up and become a large business)
steadily declined. The
5th and the 6th books are frankly terrible. Things like creativity
,originality and good literary sense were thrown down the toilet. She
afterall had all the "Potter" fans to be crap but still followed
around.
Now about the movie. It was a piece of junk ,not only because of
acting(in LOTR ,nobody remembered the acting, just everyone was saying
how good the movie was) ,plots(based upon a good book) or CGI(good
enough) but very bad direction. The movie was deviod of emotion and a
thing called continuity.Random events seemed to happen. Each of the
takes seemed as if somebody had randomly cut off the movie scene and
put them together. The child actors lacked appeal and more importantly
seemed to know nothing about acting.
It is suprising that it has already grossed $400 million but I would
hope that most of them had gone hoping to see a good family flick but
come home disappointed.

Energy and God

When I was in college there was a guy who used to tell me that God
exists and he/she is representive of energy. He was a science student
and he knew much more about primordial soup(where life originated)
,big bank(from where the current universe expanded ,and reached its
current form, no account for parallel universes) , and evolution. But
he told me that he believed in God , an omnipresent and omniscient
allpowerful God.And the God is energy. He told me that big bang
happened because of God,as God envisioned it, and so on for the origin
of Life or the solar system. I laughed at him at that time, but
retrospectively I think he is correct. If you think energy is God ,then
it has all the characteristics of God.Nothing in the world happens
without energy from the ATP in your cells to nuclear reactions in
Sun/Stars. So it could be said that God(energy) designed life,
universe and created it to the current form.
No argument that!

Time Dilation,Astrology, and Relativity.

Anybody who has a remote knowledge about general relativity of Albert
Eistein could tell you about Time Dilation. Time dilation means that
time dilates when your present speed(velocity) approaches the speed of
light. The dilation is minor when velocity is small. In other words,
people who travel a lot in airplanes and astronauts are a fraction
younger than those of us who stay in earth. Yes it's true and has been
scientifically proven already. Now that means that time is not a
constant, which means that one hour time measured in earth would be
different from one hour time measured some other place. As always I
recommend reading wikipedia's page about time dilation. Now relativity
states that like other axises ,time could be theoritically travelled
and it could be stretched and jumped. It makes sense when you compare
with the other dimensions like space ,you can jump forward ,backwards
or stay at the same place. It is only the matter of energy and
theoritical time travel machines(which would actually work if built)
are already envisioned and designed. There are serious problems with
implementation of those machines which would mean that there is very
little chance of anyone seeing those machines quickly. Now ,according
to relativity it seems that like space time is out there .In other
words , like yesterday tomorrow is already there ,or what happens
tomorrow or any future time is already fixed. That is it is fatalistic
view of tomorrow. You really have no control of what happens next, if
you follow this theory. Now some scientific minded supporters of
astrology have pointed out to me that from relativity you can see that
future is fixed, or astrology works. They see the planets as some
blueprint of the already fixed tomorrow.
Scary picture that!

Astrology- it works!?

I came across a Hindu astrology book which gave me a very interesting
reading. It was comparing birth charts(horoscopes) of two Indians with
identical charts.
It appeared that one of them was from a very prominent family and had
enough money for a good education.
The other was from a poor family and was thus forced to study in a
government school(in Utter Pradesh,India) one of the poorest parts of
the country with dilapated school buildings and very poor education
methods and instructors.
Without the help of astrology I could have said ,it is likely that the
man from the rich family went on to be very successful whereas the one
from the poor family was left poor.Education do matter a lot in
India, and people with very good education (like IIT, the renowned
Indian Institute of Technology) are mostly very successful in life.
Now from an astrological viewpoint,it turned out that they had
similiar charts. Both had 5 planets exalted(special points in horizon
where planets are supposed to be very strong) out of possible 7.Hindu
astrology counts Moon and Sun as planets and the outer planets(Uranus
,Neptune and Pluto) are not included. So it should be (from an
astrological viewpoint) that they both should live successful lives.
It turns out that the poor one just for subsistence sake got a
government job, then he raped a minor ,and currently he is spending
his quality time in jail, whereas the rich one is head of a MNC(Multi
National Company) in Dubai.See just as I would have predicted(though,
without astrology).
Now the book explains the disparity between the two(with similiar
charts) amazingly.
Apparently, the birth charts and its effects depends upon place,
situations, parents and time. What a nice way to say 'astrology is
fake'.

Fark Vs Something Awful

Flame on in both forums as both sucks.I think that there should be
someway that those who participate in these flame wars could come face
to face,so some real blood could be spilled.
Meanwhile ,flame on Morans. And all your brains are belong to us.
